The Inner Struggle

ree

The earth is ground zero for all kinds of struggles. We are sent here to learn and grow as we try to survive in the danger zone. Some have it harder than others but we all have the never ending inner struggles that rob us of that heavenly peace that is so ellusive. Anxiety, worry and depression come in many forms and manifest themselves physically in our bodies. Many times we don't recognize these enemies within, but, I guarantee you they are definately present and want to destroy us.

It can be a bright, blue sky outside with birds chirping and tree branches swaying in the sun, yet inside all we see and feel is a muddy, cold, damp cloudy day with freezing rain pelting away at our spirit. It's the inner struggle that gets us. The unfinished business that is always bursting onto the scene making us feel miserable and edgy. The list of work we can never seem to get done. The chaos that, no matter how many times is organized falls back into disorder.

I long for the day when the joy and peace that is talked about in God's word is sustained eternally. Is it possible to have this here on earth? What kind of mindset do we need in order for this to be sustained? I know that when you are in the sweet spot of peace there is nothing that can compare to it. It's like waking up from a sleep that was never interrupted. When you wake, you are invigorated and ready to take on the world. Have you ever had a sleep like that where your dreams were uplifting, your Rem was not shortened due to bathroom breaks all night long. Where, you fell right to sleep, not worrying about it. This kind of sleep doesn't come often but when it does you remember it. The inner struggles fades into the background and all you feel in the morning is a peace that passes all understanding.

Humanity groans for a time when there will be no more wars. A time when each of us is treated with respect and honor and kindness. There will be no worries about people breaking into your home or the tax collector unfairly taking your money. We face many obstacles, and much bad news all the time. This causes the inner struggle in our soul to deepen and open up like the Grand Canyon. We forget to breath and our bones and muscles tighten up and we forget the beauty all around us. Our mind is fixated on the problem instead of the solution.

What is the solution? When everything seems to be going south in your life, is it possible to get back on track? Yes!!! Here is my strategy that I would like to pass onto you.

  • Repent and by this I mean repent of trying to tackle all your problems by yourself. We should leave the heavy lifting to God. That is where He wants all our burdens to be. Pride is thinking we have all the answers and that God isn't sufficient. We treat God like a burden instead of the Master of the Universe who can move mountains in our life if we submit to Him. We are not as strong as God.

    • 2nd Corinthians 12:9-10 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

  • Breath and let all that bad air out that you've been holding in. Sometimes you don't know how long that bad, stale air has intoxicated you. Breath deeply and calm yourself. It's gonna be okay. Rome wasn't built in a day, Give yourself grace and love because you are important to God. He is intimately aware of all your struggles. Release them to Him for He cares for you.

  • Start your day off with God and tell Him how much you love Him. Ask Him to direct your steps and get the things done that need getting done. Don't wait unti you go to bed to reach out to God. It's too late by that time. Offer Him the first fruits of your day and watch what will happen. He delights in a humble heart who asks. I have seen over and over again the rewards of starting off on the right foot. Give praise to God at the end of the day for all you were able to accomplish.

I hope that your inner struggles will grow faintly dim as we remember that beautiful hymn....

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.
